Kalimbas are metal-tined instruments that originated in southern Africa, where they can be found in countless variations. The Hokema B11 Melody brings this ancient tradition into a modern, precision-crafted form — an instrument that is as beautiful to hold as it is to play.

Designed for Easy Playing

Hokema positioned the long and short tines alternately to ensure ease of playing in accordance with acoustic criteria. The six shorter tines are bent with their ends raised above the longer tines, enabling easy reach by the thumbs. The eleven tines are numbered from left to right — even numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) represent the longer tines, odd numbers the shorter. For single-voice melodies, the left thumb plays tines 1–6 and the right thumb plays tines 6–11.
